Waist Beads

Waist beads, also known as belly beads, are typical African decoration consisting of small glass beads worn around the waist or hips on a string or chain. The history of waist beads can be traced to as early as the 15th century, and since then have been worn by women. Waist beads are a sign of femininity, fertility, sensuality in Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal and other Western African countries.
